John Oliver Fleming, 80, of Somonauk, Illinois, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2009, in Tillers Healthcare Residence in Oswego, IL. He was born August 4, 1929, in Chicago, IL, the son of Paul and Marie (Papez) Fleming. John married Dorothy A. Fuchs on May 4, 1957, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Chicago, IL. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Somonauk, IL, and served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his eight children, Elizabeth (Dr. Scott) O’Connor of Sugar Grove, IL, and their children, Ben, Tessa, Olivia and Hannah; John P. (Betina) Fleming of Peoria, IL, and their children, Jake, Abby, Josh, Ana and Isabel; Dr. Lawrence (Dr. Kim) Fleming of League City, TX, and their children, Christopher, Sarah, and Andrew; Daniel (Patti) Fleming of Ballston Spa, NY, and their children, Danny, Trisha (Ryan) and Amelia; Patricia (Frank) Milazzo of Elmhurst, IL, and their children Lauren and Paul; Margaret (Bryan) Stein of Middleton, WI, and their children, Charlotte and Alayna; Catherine Fleming of Elgin, IL, and Stephen Paul (Elisabeth) Fleming-Prot of Seattle, WA, and their daughter Louise; one sister Mary Fleming of WI; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk, IL, with Rev. Thomas Brantman officiating. Burial will follow in St. John Catholic Cemetery rural Somonauk, IL. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk, IL, with a prayer service at 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John Baptist Catholic Parish Endowment Fund, the American Diabetes Society, the American Cancer Society, or the local food pantries. Uncle John was a kind, caring, fun person, whom I will always remember as young at heart, with great wit. He raised a wonderful family, due in no small part by the person he was.
