Sonya S. Harpster - 72

Burkhart-Eighner Funeral Home - Sandwich- - Sonya S. Harpster, 72, of Millington, IL passed away, Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Willow Crest Nursing Pavilion in Sandwich. She was born July 3, 1937 in Fairland, IL the daughter of Kenneth and Geneva (Case) Koehler. She married Bobby Harpster on February 13, 1960 in Ottawa, IL. She earned her Master’s degree at Northern Illinois University in Elementary Education.

She was a school teacher in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. She then was employed by Farmer’s Insurance in Aurora, IL and was a 4-H Leader in Kendall County for about 20 years. She was a genealogy enthusiast. She was a longtime member of Salem Lutheran Church in Sandwich.

She is survived by her husband, Bobby of Millington, IL; three children, Larry (Lucinda) Harpster of Pleasant Prairie, WI Colleen (Javier) Hernandez of Los Angelos, CA and Heather (Hide) Ishikawa of Yokahama, Japan; her mother, Geneva Koehler of Vandalia, IL, six grandchildren, Andrew, Kristen, Mayumi, Emi, Alisha and Robert; nine brothers and sisters and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Salem Lutheran Church in Sandwich with Rev. Gene Piesker officiating. Burial will follow after the luncheon at Millington - Newark Cemetery in Millington, IL. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 on Friday, February 26, 2010 at Burkhart-Eighner Funeral Home in Sandwich, IL and again on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church.
