Turner-Eighner Funeral Home Somonauk - Benjaman E. “Ben” Caviness, 80, of Somonauk, formerly of Aurora passed away Sunday, June 6, 2010 at Valley West Community Hospital in Sandwich. He was born December 23, 1929 in Stillwell, OK the son of Joe and Ellen (Soderberg) Caviness. He married Alice Stearns on April 18, 1953 in Aurora, IL. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Sandwich. Ben was a horseshoer and horse trainer for many years, a musician and a square dance caller. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and was also a loyal friend.

He is survived by his wife, Alice of Somonauk; five children, Star Lanigan of Chicago, Todd (Kay) Caviness of Leland, Robin (George) Taylor of Moneta, VA, Ben (Kelly) Caviness of Decatur, TX and Tracy (Jim) Windle of Oswego, IL; fourteen grandchildren, Megan and Patrick Lanigan, Justin, Matthew, Brittany and Keeley Caviness, Charles and Celia Taylor, LeAnne (Kurt) Shepard, Levi Caviness, Caleb (Malee) Caviness, Kyle, Jeramy and Cory Windle; three great grandchildren, Noah Shepard, Alice and Jewell Caviness; one sister, Colleen Caviness of Yorkville; two brothers, Douglas Caviness of TN, Larry Caviness of OK, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Carmen Christensen; one brother, Lee Don Caviness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk with the Rev. Steve Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Lincoln Memorial Park in Aurora Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at the funeral home. Todd and to all of your family sorry for the loss of your dad. I seen this in the aurora newspaper and remembered how when we were growing up togetherand hanging out over at your house way out on fifth ave. and your horses you all had. sure do miss the old days of allen school and simmons so may peace be with you and your whole family in this time of need. I am in the phone book if you care to maybe get together someday and reminise.
