Maxine M. Streff - 85

Turner-Eighner Funeral Home Plano - Maxine M. Streff of Plano died on Wednesday, July 7th, after fighting a long and courageous battle with ITP and leukemia. Throughout her illness, she never lost her tenacity and her sense of humor. She was a gift and inspiration to all her family and friends. Maxine was born December 3, 1924, on the family farm in Batavia, IL. She was the daughter of Matthew and Josephine (Gerten) Konen. Maxine graduated from Batavia High School in 1942. Soon after, she met Charles P. Streff through friends, and they were married June 11, 1947, at St. Rita’ Catholic Church in Aurora, IL. Shortly after, they moved to Plano and began their family of 5 children. She was a homemaker and a loving mother who was very actively involved in her children’s lives and in her church.

Maxine was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Plano, where she was also a longtime member of the CCW. In 1974, she was chosen as the CCW Woman of the Year. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Plano. She was a Girl Scout leader and girls’ softball coach for several years when her children were younger, as well as being actively involved in St. Mary’s Catholic School.

Maxine was blessed with three wonderful and fun-loving sisters who shared her love of life and family. She also had a very best friend (4th sister) who was very close to her heart, Mary Collins. The five of them spent endless hours together over the years, even playing cards together while she received her weekly platelet infusions.

Maxine is survived by four of her five children; Pamela (Gene Tuck) Streff of Boynton Beach, FL, Gary (Kathie) Streff of Sandwich, IL, Lisa(Charles) Casner of Sandwich, IL, and Mark (Tammy Griffin) Streff of Merritt Island, FL: one daughter-in-law, Trudy Streff of Millington, IL; twelve grandchildren, Thomas and Tamara Streff, Stacy Fuller, Sara Day, Sherri Conteras, Starla Hughes, and Charles Streff, Tara Dean, Jennifer Streff, and Carly and Patrick Casner: eleven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Patricia (Melvin ) Renaud of Aurora, Joan Grant of Aurora, Bernice Konen of Aurora, one brother, Richard, of Aurora, and one sister-in-law, Edna Konen, of Batavia. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Charles, P. Streff, her son, Charles D. Streff, her granddaughter, Siera Streff, a son-in-law, Thomas Merchant, her parents, two brothers, Ervin and Joseph Konen, and a sister-in-law, MaryKay Konen.

Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Plano with Rev. Andy Davy officiating. Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Bristol. Visitation will be on from 5:00 until 8:00 pm, Monday, July 12, 2010 at Turner Funeral Home in Plano with a prayer service held at 6:00pm.
